South Main Clinic (SMC) is an interprofessional clinic whose mission is to provide high-quality, comprehensive, and cost-effective care to under-resourced and at-risk families in the Salt Lake community. South Main Clinic was established in 1995 by the University of Utah, Department of Pediatrics, Woman and Child Institute in partnership with the Salt Lake County Health Department. The close alignment of South Main Clinic's mission and the mission of the PA division and program, to care for the underserved, provided a natural pathway for the PA division to collaborate with SMC to expand services. In 2015, the Division of Physician Assistant Education and Sciences partnered with SMC to add adult medical care to the spectrum of services.
As of 2018, SMC partners include the Department of Pediatrics, College of Nursing, Division of Physician Assistant Education and Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the School of Dentistry. These partners work collaboratively to provide a comprehensive medical home for families in the Salt Lake Valley. As a result of these efforts, South Main Clinic serves as the University of Utah's premier site for hands-on, interprofessional practice and education and is an integral clinical training site for students.
