The medical toxicology section supports education in toxicology for a wide variety of learners including medical students, emergency medicine residents, pediatric emergency medicine fellows, other medical and pediatric residents and fellows, PharmD students, and PharmD residents.

The toxicology consult service is available to see patients admitted to the University Hospital or Primary Children's Hospital.
MEDICAL TOXICOLOGY FACULTY:
Michael Moss, MD, FAACT
Dr. Moss is medical director of the Utah Poison Control Center. He is board certified in medical toxicology, addiction medicine, and emergency medicine. He provides toxicology consults at University Hospital and Primary Children's Hospital and also works on the University addiction consult service.
Dr. Moss coordinates the toxicology portion of emergency medicine resident conference and coordinates toxicology rotations for EM interns and pediatric EM fellows.
His research interests include novel psychoactive substances, cannabis, and poison center based studies.
He serves on the hospital Adverse Drug Reactions Committee, Utah Drug Monitoring Initiative, Utah Lead Coalition, and Utah Cannabis Research Review Board.
Dr. Moss attended medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, completed emergency medicine residency and served as chief resident at Virginia Commonwealth University, and completed medical toxicology fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University.
Alyrene Dorey, MD
Dr. Dorey attended medical school at the University of Colorado and completed Emergency Medicine residency and Medical Toxicology fellowship at the University of California, Davis. She is the Assistant Medical Director of the Utah Poison Control Center and the course director for Introduction to Medical Toxicology, and elective available to medical students in their fourth year of training.
Her interests include medical education, pharmacotherapy, quality improvement and envenomations.

Novel Psychoactive Substances Surveillance - screening patients with suspect novel substance use for drugs not detected on routine testing to identify emerging trends in drug use.
