Environmental Exposures of Tribal Populations

Your Input Needed!

For a research study on “Evaluation of Report-Back Strategies for Long-term and Short-term Exposure Information in Rural Tribal Populations”

Volunteers needed for a study on how to effectively share scientific information about pollution exposure with Tribal and rural communities. Researchers from the Northern Arapaho Tribe and the University of Utah would like to learn how to communicate about important health information to improve understanding – but we need your help.

You may be eligible to participate if:

  • You are 18 years or older

  • You are an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho

  • NOTE: You may be asked to sign a consent form, but your participation is voluntary and you can stop participating at any time

Volunteers are needed to support all phases of this study

PHASE 1

  • Task:  Participate in a listening session

  • Time Commitment:  1–2 hours

  • Compensation:

    • Refreshments during listening session.

    • Learn about compensation for participation on later research phases.

What is A Listening Session?

Listening sessions are a way to gather insights, feedback, and opinions from the community. For this task, we will discuss our prior study in Wind River and give other examples of how we might share important health related information. Then we ask each participant to provide feedback on the examples.

PHASE 2

What is A Focus Group?

Focus groups use what we learned in the listening session to present a range of situations and up to offer various option on how to solve that problem. After presenting each scenario, each participant will be asked to provide their feedback on each option.

Task 3 – Focus Group

Task:  Participate in a 12 hour focus group to discuss the best way to communicate about environmental and health information

  • Time Commitment:  12 Hours

  • Study compensation:

    • $25 Visa gift card

    • Refreshments provided during focus groups

PHASE 3

Task 4 - Home Testing

  • Task:  Allow environmental sensors to be installed at your residence

  • Time Commitment:  Two Months

  • Study compensation:

    • $25 Visa gift card

    • Environmental report of your residence

Task 5 – Survey Questionnaire
