The department participates in clinical trials with several national cooperative groups including the NRG Oncology (NRG), the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), and Children's Oncology Group (COG), as well as others. All faculty members participate in clinical research in their respective areas.

Our faculty and residents are active in research. Many faculty members are national and international experts in their chosen fields. Currently the faculty and residents are conducting many investigational studies involving various disease sites. In addition, a study published in the Red Journal found that between 2002 and 2007 University of Utah residents had more first-author publications per capita than those of any other radiation oncology residency program.
