We are so excited to celebrate this incredible accomplishment with you!
Match Day is a major milestone for medical students, typically held in March, when they learn where they will complete their residency training after graduating from medical school. On this day, students across the country simultaneously open their match results, revealing the hospital and specialty where they’ve been placed through the national residency matching process. It’s often celebrated with classmates, faculty, friends, and family, marking the transition from medical school to physician training.

The ceremony will be streamed on the School of Medicine homepage live on Friday March 20, 2026 at 9:30 AM. Please feel free to share this link with your loved ones who are unable to attend in-person!

There is no official guest limit. However, space is limited, and we ask everyone to keep this in mind and encourage extended friends and family to join via live stream.

We recommend wearing business casual or semi-formal. However, no strict dress code is enforced.

9:00 a.m.: Doors open for students and guests.
9:40 a.m.: Students will hear some words of wisdom from SFESOM leaders and Class Presidents.
Envelopes will be spaced alphabetically at the front of the venue.
10:00 a.m.: Receive and open envelopes!! This is a time for processing, sharing with loved ones, taking photos, or whatever else you need. We will have volunteers taking photos, an event photographer, and multiple photo ops throughout the venue. Each student will receive a personal “I Matched” poster and marker as well as Fishbowl instructions.
10:30 a.m.: Class Toast—where you will enjoy a moment together with a sparkling cider (non-alcoholic) to celebrate your accomplishments. Regardless of Match status, all students are invited to join the toast!
10:35 a.m.: Match Day Announcements and Fishbowl!
12:00 p.m.: Official Match Day festivities wrap up, and students leave to celebrate their accomplishments with friends and family

We will serve water, coffee, and lemonade along with a selection of appetizers that attendees can grab on their way to their seats or standing tables.

Given the expected attendees and regular undergraduate parking during our event, we highly recommend carpooling, ridesharing, or taking TRAX. The University Medical Center Trax station is a 10-minute walk from Alumni House.
There are three parking lots reserved, with first-come-first-served parking. You may park in lots 30, 39, or 43 even if you don’t have a U or A pass.
Unfortunately, parking has been limited in past years, and we have tried to mitigate this by reserving an overflow lot. Please do your part by arriving early and carpooling/taking public transport so we and our guests can have the best Match Day experience possible!
